This was the exact scenario one of our partners faced back in 2025.
Case Study: From CNC Machining to the Injection Mold
The client was originally machining the plastic component on a CNC milling machine. As market demand grew, scrap management and disposal costs spiked dramatically—the higher the volume, the more material ended up as costly waste rather than finished product.
When they reached out to us, we conducted an engineering review and a preliminary cost estimate. It turned out the mold could be built in China—at a relatively competitive cost—and the resulting unit price per part dropped so substantially that the tooling would pay for itself even at their moderate production volumes.
The client wasn’t an expert in injection molding or polymer materials—and they didn’t have to be. We handled the complete part analysis, design optimization, and mold procurement from start to finish.
The entire project took just 12 weeks. —and a significant portion of that was the client's internal decision-making process. That’s completely natural: committing capital to a technology outside your core expertise is never an easy call.
When the mold arrived, a fresh order from their end-customer happened to come in simultaneously. We ran the mold trials on an expedited schedule— in just two days.Within seven days, we had dispatched the first full-scale production batch directly to the client.
An outcome nobody anticipated: the client's end-buyer previously relied on two separate suppliers for CNC-milled parts. Upon receiving the injection-molded components—superior in quality and noticeably lower in cost—they abandoned milled parts altogether in favor of molded ones. For our client, this triggered an immediate surge in order volume, driving an even faster tooling payback than originally projected.
What is the takeaway for your business?
